For the first half of 2013, China exports 12170 units of injection molding machines worth $457,299,000, accounting for 56.6% of the total plastics machinery exports sales and increasing by 1% compared with the same period last year.
Top five countries as China’s injection molding machine export destinations in the first half of the year are Indonesia, Turkey, Brazil, Thailand and the United States. They are the same with last year’s but different in sequence. Though Thailand’s demand for imported injection molding machines contracted sharply since 2012, it has been kept at certain level. The declined demand is attributed to not only the accomplishment of post-disaster reconstruction, but also the investment of international plastics machine manufacturers in Thailand, which meets the local needs for injection molding machines. Indonesia has been China’s reliable injection molding machine export destination for recent two years, and it becomes the largest one with dramatically increased imports in the first half of the year despite the unfavorable macroeconomic environment of Indonesia.

Considering global sales of China’s injection molding machines, geographic distribution of market tends to balance in the future. Export destinations will no longer be limited to certain countries or regions. Except the top five importing countries mentioned above, China’s other export markets such as Venezuela, Egypt and Korea have seen a remarkable growth in the first half of the year. Meantime, international manufacturers are accelerating developing South Asia market. For instance, Austria’s injection molding machine manufacturer ENGEL is planning to double the production capacity of its Korean plant and set up a sales office in Thailand, with the aim to maintain the momentum of business growth in Thailand and Indonesia.

While the global market shares gains the momentum towards balance, China’s total export sales of injection molding machines are basically flat. In other word, despite the fast-growing emerging markets, there is a decline in the old export markets. One of the reasons is that international manufacturers speed up their investment in major markets and local supply will have certain impact on the foreign trade of those markets.
Ningbo is China’s largest manufacturing base and export region of injection molding machine. In the first half of the year, Zhejiang province exports 7396 units of injection molding machines worth $247,827,000, with a year-on-year growth of 7.2%. Well-developed injection molding machine industry cluster and convenient Ningbo port contribute to Zhejiang province’s export of injection molding machines. Injection molding machine exports shipped from Ningbo port in the first half of 2013 total $222,843,000, taking up 48.7% of China’s total injection molding machine exports.
So far, well-known manufacturers including Germany’s DEMAG, Japan’s Sumitomo, Korea’s WOOJIN and Italy’s Intermot have moved into Beilun, the largest injection molding machine manufacturing base in Ningbo, which strengthens the competitiveness of local injection molding machines with the advantages of Ningbo port and capacity of mold development.

Guangdong province is also a major manufacturing base of injection molding machine in China, with export volume coming after Zhejiang province. Shantou City in Guangdong plays an important role in China’s manufacture of plastics machinery. Export of machinery by Guangdong mainly depends on Shenzhen port. In the first half of the year, exported injection molding machines shipped from Shenzhen port and Shantou port respectively total $36,092,000 and $1,143,000.
